The Tree stores the people, relationships, places, notes and voice memories you add on your iPhone. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and your data is never sold or shared with third parties.
iCloud backup. The Tree makes a nightly backup to your own iCloud Drive. Backups are encrypted with a key that stays on your device; we cannot read them. You can delete backups at any time in Settings → Backup.
Optional sync. If you sign in with Google and turn on sync, The Tree sends your email address and the records you created to a database used only for your account (hosted by Neon). Access is restricted to your Google account. Sign out to stop syncing. To delete your account and everything synced to it, open Settings → Account → Delete Account in the app; the data is erased from the database immediately. People saved on your iPhone are not affected.
Photos. The Tree only reads the albums you choose in Settings. Face grouping runs on your iPhone; photos are never uploaded.
Microphone and speech. Voice memories are recorded and transcribed on your iPhone.
Children. The Tree is not directed at children under 13.
Changes. If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
